I just got back from H.O. Brittingham Elementary as a guest with the Delaware B.I.E. I got to work with seven groups of fifth graders on how martial arts relates to science. Showing how to use proper bone alignment, muscular structure and breathing, each student got to see how much power the could generate when striking a focus pad. What an awesome group of kids!!!!!! I worked up a sweat and wore a few of them out. So nice to be in the community and provide this experience.
A Note on Teaching and Entertaining.
I once heard someone say his job was to teach and not entertain. Hmm…..what kind of teaching would that be really? I consider myself an entertainer to a large degree especially for the childrens classes. It ignites energy, keeps the group moving, demonstrates and instills passion and clears the message you hope to send. Want to get something done? Put on a brave face and have a go at bringing some theater into your passions. You never know what rewards may come with a spirited performance.
I think your “performing” makes it fun for the kids…and it makes you a REAL person to them! My kids wouldn’t have it any other way! (=
